Metro: Track Equipment Hit Train But No Injuries

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- Metro says a piece of track equipment hit a blue line train in northern Virginia with passengers on board, but no passengers were hurt.

The Washington Post reports that a crew was replacing ties along the tracks early Thursday when a piece of equipment called a "movable arm" hit a passing train between the Braddock Road and National Airport stations. Metro says work was immediately suspended and the crew was taken out of service.

Metro spokeswoman Caroline Lukas says passengers were delayed about 40 minutes while Metro conducted a safety inspection.
