Bob Haynie: College And Pro Football Picks

The football gods sent me a strong message last weekend: Don't get too full of thyself.

I had been on a hot streak with my game selections. Especially in college. As we all know, football is a crazy game. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you learn that you really don't. Or you learn that it might be wise to avoid certain teams when you try to make predictions.

Mediocrity reigned as I was 3-3 with my picks.

In college, Ohio State came from behind to knock off Northwestern on the road and Virginia Tech handled the reeling North Carolina Tar Heels. Of course, both teams covered. Maryland was embarrassed by Florida State 63-0. The Terps were getting 16.5 and were run out of Doak Campbell Stadium on national television. They were my loser of the week.

I only had one winner in the NFL and, fortunately, it was the Ravens who held off the Dolphins in Miami. My strange infatuation with the Bears caught up to me last Sunday as they lost at home to the Saints. My most egregious pick turned out to the be the Atlanta Falcons and I'm not just talking about this past weekend. If you remember, the Falcons were my preseason choice to win the Super Bowl. After getting upset at home by the Jets, Atlanta is 1-4 and now has some work to do just to make the playoffs.

Heading into to this weekend's games, my record stands at 21-7-2.

The quest for the perfect week continues.

College:

Maryland (-7) Virginia
LSU (-7) Florida
Michigan (-2.5) @ Penn State

Happy Football!
