Heavy Rains Lead To Sewage Overflow In Md.

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) -- Officials say excessive rainfall led to a sewage overflow at a wastewater pumping station in Fort Washington.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission says untreated, diluted wastewater spilled into Broad Creek for about 2 hours, starting Friday night and ending early Saturday morning. It's not yet clear how much wastewater went into the creek.

The commission says heavy rain overwhelmed the pump station's capacity.

WSSC crews will post signs in the area and clean up the creek as necessary.
