DNR Seeks Riders To Test New ATV Trail

GRANTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is looking for riders to evaluate a new off-road vehicle trail in the Savage River State Forest.

The agency said Wednesday it has scheduled four test rides through December for 15 registered riders.

Riders must apply by mail or in person at the forest headquarters near Grantsville at least five business days beforehand. Monday, Oct. 28 is the deadline for the applications.

The trail is seven miles long, or 14 miles round trip.

The agency said earlier this month it was scrapping plans for two other off-road vehicle trails on the slopes of Sideling Hill near Hancock.

The DNR says the trail design will avoid the kind of environmental damage that led it to close 36 miles of off-road vehicle trails in 2011.
