Off-Duty Officer Shoots At Car Thief
TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Police say an off-duty U.S. Park police officer fired shots at a car thief who drove toward him after being confronted.
County police say the Park Police officer saw someone steal his mother's car about 6:45 a.m. Monday in Temple Hills. Authorities say the officer got into his personal car, caught up with the suspect and ordered him to stop.
Police say the officer identified himself as a law enforcer and ordered the suspect out of the car. Officials say the suspect began driving toward the officer, who fired several shots at the car.
The car drove off, but was found abandoned a short time left.
Police do not know if the thief was hit by gunfire. The officer was not injured.
