Greenest Salons In Baltimore

A lot of you out there would like to figure out some easy ways to live a "greener" lifestyle without making huge personal sacrifices. One of the easiest ways, especially for women, is to choose a salon that is making an effort to be "green." Both hair and nail salons are starting to pop up all over the country, doing their best to keep the Earth clean and healthy. These places generally take two approaches. First, they use all-natural, chemical-free products. These products are not only better for Mother Nature, but they can actually improve your hair and skin health too. Secondly, these salons try to run the business in a "green" way. This can include using skylights for natural lighting or reducing the amount of water and electricity they use. No matter how large or small the "green" impact may be, finding one of these salons is a very simple way to do your part.

Sprout has really made a name for itself in the all-natural salon market. It has been featured in many articles by huge media outlets and has won multiple awards. Elle Magazine named it one of the "Top 100 Salons in the United States" for 2009-2010. In addition to using natural hair products and cleaning products, Sprout also uses wind power to generate electricity, LED lighting in the shop, has floors made from fast-growing bamboo instead of wood from trees and even the sign out front was made from recycled metal. But, as owner Alan Kolb reminds us, "Going green is not a trade-off for giving great haircuts." Sprout also receives rave reviews from clients who absolutely love how they look when the stylists are through.

Rachael Epstein, a very talented stylist who founded Sprout, opened a new salon of couple years ago. Just like Sprout, Crafted Hair Studio uses all-natural products and hair dyes. Rachael says, "Organic plant-based colors are permanent and they leave hair healthy, without the harsh ammonia/chemical smell." Crafted Hair Studio is also getting incredibly positive reviews from user-based websites like Yelp.

Alpha Studio offers a full line of products and services to pamper all types of "green" living folks. It offers standard haircuts and dyes, wedding and special-event styling, pre-cut conditioning, damage remedy, facials, peels, makeup applications or lessons, makeup for weddings and events, waxing and more. Alpha Studio says it is "committed to inspiring and educating people to integrate wellness and beauty into their lives, while treating ourselves, each other and the planet with the utmost care and respect." Alpha's products are all natural and chemical free. And as if that wasn't enough, all haircuts include a complimentary bliss-inducing scalp, neck and shoulder massage. "Going green" has never felt this good.

The best thing about switching to an organic salon is how easy it is to make a "green" impact. You literally do nothing except drive to a new salon. But, by doing so, you are making a difference. Places like these are making a conscious effort to help save the planet. So, go ahead. Take one of the easiest steps to living a "green" life and give one of these salons a try.
