Police Trainee Killed In Car Crash

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say a man training to be an officer with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police has died after his car struck a tree.

Police say Jerrell Lamont Wedge, 24, of Upper Marlboro was killed Sunday about 3:30 a.m. in an accident. He was heading west on Old Marlboro Pike near Maple Shade Lane when his car crashed.

Investigators say it appears speed was a factor in the crash.

Wedge was attending the county's police training academy. Wedge was the only person involved in the crash.
