Elderly Couple Killed In Md. Fire Identified

MAUGANSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Authorities have identified an elderly married couple who died during a fire at their home in Maugansville.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says the victims were 83-year-old Donald Keith Alt and 72-year-old Betty June Alt.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Bruce Bouch says the home was built in 1906 and had no smoke detectors. He says the exact cause of the fire has proven difficult to determine, but the blaze was accidental in nature.

The fire broke out early Wednesday morning and was contained to the kitchen and dining room area on the first floor of the 2-story home. The victims died of smoke inhalation.
