Man Fatally Shot By D.C. Police Officer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Police in Washington say a man has died after being shot by an officer after allegedly pulling out a handgun during an altercation.

Authorities say an officer conducting an investigation tried to speak to a man, who ran away. Police say the officer ran after the man and an altercation ensued. Authorities say the man produced a handgun and refused the officer's repeated demanded that he drop the weapon.

Police say the officer fired his service weapon and hit the man several times.

Robert Brown, 26, of Washington died at a hospital.

The incident is under investigation.
