Man Charged With Impersonating Police Officer

EDGEWATER, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel County Police have arrested a man they say claimed to be an officer and sought money for a sting operation he claimed to be taking part in.

Officers were called to a gas station in Edgewater about 9:35 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a man with a gun. Officers saw a man matching the description and stopped him.

Police spoke with the victim, who said the suspect approached him and said he was an undercover officer.

Authorities say the suspect lifted his coat to show what the victim thought was the handle of a handgun. Police say the suspect asked the victim for money.

The victim did not give the suspect anything.

Dagineaux Monroe Thomas, 43, of Harwood has been charged with impersonating a police officer.
