WEATHER BLOG: Winter Storm Watch

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the NWS and goes into effect starting Sunday morning and lasting through Monday morning.

An area of low pressure will form along a stalled frontal boundary bringing wintry weather to the metro. We will likely see snow or a snow and sleet mix accumulation to 1-3" in central Maryland, including the city, at the onset of the precipitation as early as Sunday morning.

The snow or snow/sleet mix will then change over to freezing rain, adding an additional icy coating of a quarter of an inch or more midday Sunday.

A changeover to rain is not expected until late Sunday night or Monday morning so hazardous travel conditions must be expected during this time and increased power outages cannot be ruled out.
