Montgomery Schools Eliminating Strawberry Milk

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County schools are removing strawberry milk from their cafeterias.

The Washington Post reports that the drink will be eliminated from Maryland's largest school system starting in January. Montgomery's director of food and nutrition services, Marla R. Caplon, says removing the strawberry beverage, which has artificial coloring in it and has been served for the past five or six years, is the "right thing to do."

The school system says 18 percent of all the milk it currently serves is strawberry milk. Another 15 percent is unflavored milk. By far the most popular milk is chocolate milk, which accounts for 67 percent of all milk served.

The school system will continue to serve regular and chocolate milk.
