Man Convicted Of Shooting, Killing Girlfriend

WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- A Woodbine man has been convicted of killing his girlfriend in their home.

A Carroll County District Court jury on Friday convicted William Brueckmann, 27, in the shooting death of Brittany Warfield, 21, in November 2012.

The jury found Brueckmann guilty of second-degree depraved heart murder. That offense required the jury to find that the defendant killed while acting with an extreme disregard for human life.

The Carroll County Times reports that Brueckmann testified that he had planned to commit suicide. He said when Warfield tried to stop him, the gun discharged and hit her in the back of her head.

Brueckmann faces a maximum of 30 years in prison on the murder charge. A sentencing date has not been set.
