Horseshoe Casino Starts Dealing New Jobs
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore's Horseshoe Casino is dealing out jobs: 1,700 positions need to be filled.
Alex DeMetrick reports the immediate focus is putting people in Baltimore to work.
Around the clock, work has Maryland's newest casino rapidly taking shape. Rising in the shadow of M&T Bank Stadium, the Horseshoe Casino has already generated 2,000 construction jobs. A project of gaming heavyweight Caesar's, the company is now looking to hire 1,700 casino workers.
"We're talking about dealer jobs, slot attendant jobs; food and beverage jobs are also being posted. Valet runners. You name it, we got a job for everybody," said Horseshoe Casino General Manager Chad Barnhill.
The plan is to fill jobs well before the casino opens this summer, with some of the first hires going to school.
Those hired as dealers will begin a 12-week course in April. And, like the state's largest casino at Arundel Mills did before it opened, Horseshoe representatives will help applicants connect with jobs--but with a focus on Baltimore residents.
Between now and late April, the casino will host 14 one-day job recruitment centers in neighborhoods scattered around the city.
"We'll show them a little bit of a job preview, what those jobs entail, and then we'll also be able to assist them in signing up," Barnhill said.
It's more than community spirit. It's a pledge the community made to the city to get off the drawing board.
