Deputies Shoot Suspect With Machete In Edgewood
EDGEWOOD, Md. (WJZ) -- Harford County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a deputy-involved shooting.
Just before midnight Tuesday night, Harford County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 500-block of Crownwood Court for a report of an overdose victim.
Deputies were advised a 26-year-old man had taken an unknown quantity of pills and had allegedly pushed a woman down the stairs. Deputies were also advised the man may have a large knife.
Deputies say they found the man in front of the home and in possession of a machete type knife.
He ran into the woods and toward Route 24. After a foot pursuit, the suspect turned and started back toward the deputy, refusing to drop his knife. The deputy opened fire hitting Brian Matthew Ogle, 26.
He was treated at the scene and taken to Shock Trauma where he is expected to survive. Ogle will be charged with second-degree assault on Barkley, as well as resisting arrest, attempted first- and second-degree assault on a police officer, failure to obey a lawful order and other weapons charges.
Shannon Barkley, 24, was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Her injuries from the fall appear minor and are not life threatening.
The deputy, whose name has not yet been released, is a 34-year-old, seven-year member of the Sheriff's Office assigned to the Patrol Service Bureau – Southern Precinct. He has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
