Samuel Hoi Chosen To Lead Maryland Institute College of Art

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The board of the Maryland Institute College of Art has chosen Samuel Hoi as the next president of the 188-year-old school in Baltimore.

The college announced Monday that Hoi will become president on July 1. Hoi is currently president of Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angles and is the former dean of the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington.

Hoi will succeed MICA President Fred Lazarus IV, who will step down after leading the art school for 36 years. Lazarus is credited with improving the school's reputation, programs, enrollment and its endowment. MICA's MFA program is ranked in the top 10 nationally.

At Otis College, Hoi has increased enrollment 34 percent. Its operating resources have more than doubled, and the endowment has more than tripled.
