Amish Workers Returning To Catoctin Mountain Park

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- The National Park Service says Amish volunteers from Indiana are returning to Catoctin Mountain Park near Thurmont to help restore some cabins dating to the 1930s.

Park managers say eight young men from Napanee, Ind., will spend most of March at the park. This is the second year of the program.

The volunteers are working with the park's historic preservation carpenters to restore a collection of wood-and-stone cabins built by the Depression-era Works Progress Administration.

The park service says the volunteers will help strip cabins to their original components. Then they'll restore the buildings using historically accurate techniques and materials

The men are participants in a church-related community service program that enables them serve their country without joining the military.
