Nonpublic Schools To Rally For Tax Credit

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's nonpublic schools are pushing for a business tax credit to encourage investments in schools.

Hundreds of students are scheduled to attend a rally in downtown Annapolis Tuesday morning. They're coming to support the Maryland Education Credit Bill, a measure filed by Sen. James DeGrange and Del. Keiffer Mitchell.

Maryland presently has 25 tax credits but none for education, the Maryland Catholic Conference reports.

Also, the Senate Executive Nominations Committee is set to take up on Monday afternoon Joseph Gill's nomination as secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Gill is the department's acting secretary. His confirmation was delayed last month after he reportedly threatened to cut fishing quotas if the legislature didn't pass a bill on fishing restrictions.
