Brown Releases Plan On Educational Achievement Gap

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown has released a plan in an effort to close Maryland's educational achievement gap for minority and low-income students.

Brown, who is running in the Democratic primary for governor, released the 10-point plan Tuesday.

At the top of the list, Brown wants to create a Governor's Office of Educational Disparities and Opportunities to focus on the issue. He also wants to implement universal prekindergarten.

Other parts of the plan include expanding career and technology education and investing in school construction.

The lieutenant governor also is calling for increasing the number of Latino liaisons in schools and for creating a minority teacher scholarship fund.
