Md. Woman, Olympian, Returns To Coffee Bar Work
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A 24-year-old woman who won a bronze medal at the Olympics as part of the Swiss women's hockey team is back behind the counter as a barista at a Washington coffee shop.
Jessica Lutz returned to work at the Coffee Bar in northwest Washington on Friday. Lutz wore her Olympic medal and was greeted by co-workers wearing red shirts with white letters that read "The Barista Buries it!" The words were a tribute to a broadcaster's call after Lutz scored a major goal in the bronze medal game in Sochi.
Lutz, a native of Rockville, Md., is a dual U.S. and Swiss citizen. She left part-time work at the coffee shop in October in order to train and play for the Swiss team.
