Record-Breaking Snowfall Around Nation's Capital

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Weather Service says a winter storm is breaking snowfall records around the nation's capital.

By 1 p.m. Monday, reported snow depths reached 11 inches in Montgomery County, Md., and 10.7 in Loudon County, Va.

Washington got up to 8 inches and Baltimore got more than 7.

Daily records were broken at Reagan National Airport outside Washington and at Dulles International Airport in Sterling, Va.

The storm total at Reagan reached 7.2 inches. That includes 3.9 inches on Monday. The previous March 17 record was 1.9 inches set in 1965.

The Dulles total of 10 inches broke snowfall records for two successive days. Sunday's 6.6 inches broke a daily record of 1.6 from 1978; Monday's 3.4 inches broke a March 17 record of 1.9 inches from 1965.
