Suspect In Police-Involved Shooting Near Salisbury University Also Wanted On Murder Charges

SALISBURY, Md. (AP/WJZ) -- Authorities are searching for a man after a state trooper and sheriff's deputy were injured as the man fled a team trying to arrest him in Salisbury. Initially wanted on drug charges, the suspect is now wanted for murder as well.

Maryland State Police say two Maryland state troopers and a Wicomico County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted 31-year-old Edwin Fletcher on Wednesday night.

When the team surrounded the rented Dodge Ram pickup truck Fletcher was driving, Fletcher rammed and drove over their vehicle.  All three police officers were injured.

Police say three undercover officers fired their weapons, but the driver fled and the truck was found abandoned.

Police don't believe Fletcher or any officers were struck.

The trooper and an injured deputy were taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

On Thursday, police obtained an arrest warrant for Fletcher, charging him with multiple counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and related charges. This warrant is in addition to the felony drug warrant police were attempting to serve on him Wednesday night when the assaults occurred.
