Md. Warns Of Possible Bacteria In Porridge Product

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland health officials are warning people against eating a porridge product because of the potential presence of dangerous bacteria in it.

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene advised residents Friday to not consume or purchase certain lots of rice porridge with abalone made by Korea Food Trading Ltd. because of the potential for the product to allow Clostridium botulinum to grow.

Officials say there have been no reports of illness.

The company issued a recall on April 3 for porridge produced on Nov. 25, 2013. It was sold in 288g containers with the UPC 8 83298 61617 3 and product code 2015-01-24.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled the product in Canada, but Maryland officials say reports show it was distributed to the United States, including to Maryland.
