BALTIMORE (WJZ)– The search is on for the gunman who fatally shot a beloved youth leader in Baltimore City.

Homicide detectives and academy trainees are canvassing the neighborhood, knocking on doors and handing out flyers in search for answers.

Michael Mayfield, 17, was shot in the head and killed while sitting in a car in the 2300-block Lyndhurst Avenue  around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The star ROTC student and youth ambassador at Edmondson High School had just been accepted to college.

Police are looking for a single gunman.
