Voter Turnout In Montgomery County Lowest In State

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Data from this week's Maryland primary shows Montgomery County had the lowest voter turnout in the entire state.

The Washington Post reports just 16.2 percent of Montgomery County's 630,000 voters cast ballots on Tuesday. Montgomery County also was last in voter turnout among Maryland counties four years ago in 2010.

Statewide, only about 21 percent of eligible voters turned out at the polls and cast ballots.

Among Maryland counties, Montgomery trailed Baltimore County at 24.6 percent, Anne Arundel at 24.2 percent, Frederick at 23.2 percent, Howard at 19.7 percent and Prince George's at 17.6 percent.

Some say no major issues resonated with voters this year in Montgomery County.

County Executive Isiah Leggett and seven incumbent County Council members all won in the Democratic primary.
