Close Prince George's Council Race Still Undecided

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- The outcome of a Prince George's County Council primary is uncertain, and only 13 votes separate the candidates.

The Washington Post reports the race between District 2 candidates Doyle Niemann and Deni Taveras in the Democratic primary remains undetermined. The outcome will probably be decided by 122 provisional ballots that should be counted starting next Wednesday.

Prince George's County Election Director Alisha Alexander says she hasn't seen a race this close in all her years overseeing elections.

The district includes the towns of Hyattsville, Langley Park, Lewisdale, Chillum and Adelphi.

Niemann, 67, has represented most of the area as a delegate in Annapolis for decades.

Taveras, who is 41, used to work for state Sen. Victor Ramirez and was endorsed by County Executive Rushern Baker.
