Glenn Younes: USA Soccer - Haters Gonna Hate
With the USMNT making it to the knockout round of 16 losing yesterday to Belgium, the soccer hater can now say, "Thank God, no more soccer talk."
Bob Haynie and I even took a call yesterday from a "true hater" that said he hates the fake nationalism during things like the World Cup and the caller even brought up post 9-11 as something he can't stand. Yes, it's like that out there. We took a real live human caller that brought up 9-11 as a model for (his words) fake patriotism.
That's a view that even I didn't think would be vocalized. That said the soccer hate has remained, why, I'm not sure. I think those in the hater category still think it's cool to hate on soccer but the facts are soccer is more popular than ever, ratings show it.
But who cares about popularity anyway? You're allowed to like or dislike anything you want, it's what makes America a great free country.
That said can't we gather together for that very reason? The country isn't a reason to rally? Sports aren't something we love? Is our county not in that same mix?
Combine the two and cheer like crazy! Some just don't see it like that and to those of you in that group... I'm sorry. I'm sorry for you. I'm sorry you've closed yourself off. Closed off to nationalism. Closed off to sports. Closed off to who knows what else.
Open your eyes, your mind and your heart to possibilities, you never know what you might find. Maybe you'll find happiness and disband some of that hate.
