Death From 1982 Shooting Likely Accidental

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police say the death of a 33-year-old man who was shot in the head by his teenage sister more than 30 years ago will likely be classified as accidental.

Toye Johnson died in January at a hospital on the Eastern Shore. He was shot in May 1982, just days after his first birthday. Police say his then-14-year-old sister found a loaded handgun and was playing with it when it fired.

Johnson never fully recovered from the gunshot wound and lived in various health care facilities.

An autopsy revealed that his death was a direct result of the gunshot wound, and it was initially classified as a homicide. Police say it's likely that when the investigation concludes, the death will be ruled an accident.
