Man Charged With Stabbing Transgender Girl
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man has been charged with stabbing a transgender girl on a Metro train.
Local media partners report the Metro Transit police say 24-year-old Reginald Klaiber has been charged with stabbing a 15-year-old on a southbound Green Line train as it approached the Fort Totten station at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the District of Columbia.
Police say he stabbed her in the back after making "bias-motivated remarks about the victim's transgender status."
She was taken to a hospital with a stab wound that was not life-threatening. Klaiber has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He could face additional penalties for a hate crime.
