Frederick County Expands Inclusive Pre-K Program

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- As the new school year opens, Frederick County Public Schools are working to expand new prekindergarten programs that include both students with disabilities and students without disabilities.

The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1ueNcEr ) reports the inclusive program expanded this year to three county schools. At Twin Ridge Elementary, the class includes six students with disabilities and six without disabilities. They are supervised by three adults.

Catherine Nusbaum, the school system's coordinator of early childhood education, says the program creates a more inclusive learning environment where all students learn about diversity while interacting with their peers.

The school system hopes to expand the inclusive prekindergarten program throughout the county in schools where there are clear needs.
