Montgomery County Fire Turns Fatal

ASPEN HILL, MD (WJZ) -- One woman was killed and two firefighters were injured after a fire ripped through a home in Aspen Hill.

Around 4:35 a.m. Thursday,  firefighters responded to a fire at a home in the 4600 block of Iris Street. An 81-year-old woman inside was rescued and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but later succumbed to her injuries, according to Montgomery County Fire Chief Steven E. Lohr.

The first floor partially collapsed, Lohr said, and investigators believe the fire started in the basement.

Two firefighters were also treated for non-life threatening injuries that were heat related.

There's no word on the cause of the fire.
