Ray & Janay Rice Break Silence; She's 'Living A Nightmare,' He's 'Holding Strong'

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The fallout has been swift for former Ravens running back Ray Rice one day after graphic video of the encounter inside the Atlantic City elevator was released.

Christie Ileto has more on Ray Rice and wife Janay's comments.

Since the beginning, she's stood by him and Tuesday, she's sticking with that story. On Instagram, she pointed the finger at the media.

Tuesday morning, Janay Rice called the developments "a nightmare," and lashed out at the media on her Instagram page, saying "I woke up feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend, to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that media and unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his [expletive] off for all his life just to gain ratings is a horrific [sic]. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make is feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels."

Ray Rice himself texted CNN, saying, "I'm just holding strong for my wife and kids. That's all I can do right now."

A second leaked video this week of Ray Rice's violent altercation with his then-fiancee monopolizes the headlines and ties up the phone lines.

"I don't care if you're my trash collector, I expect you not to beat your wife," said one.

Most of the backlash is coming on social media; sports PR expert John Maroon suggests the couple unplug.

"If that's your means of communication out to the world, the downside is everyone gets to give their two cents back," Maroon said. "I would encourage them, take a step back, forget it all and fix themselves."

Rice was cut from the Ravens, suspended indefinitely from the NFL and the challenges just keep coming for Ray Rice. He's being cut out of the popular video game Madden NFL 15 and Tuesday, Nike announced it is terminating Ray Rice's endorsement deal. Monday, Rice's jerseys were pulled off the shelves by many major retailers. Click here to learn about the Ravens' jersey exchange.
