The 'Guy' And 'Girl' Of 'Once' Give An Inside Look At The Hit Musical

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The eight-time Tony award-winning musical "Once" has arrived in Baltimore. The show is touring the country, and will be here for just one week.

Tracey Leong met with the stars to get an inside look.

The hit musical "Once" is opening for the Hippodrome's Broadway season, and the cast invites you to come down and enjoy a great performance and one that might be more intimate than you're used to.

A story about unrequited love, it follows the tale of a guy and girl connecting through their passion for music.

"Been in love or been in a relationship or a relationship that doesn't quite work because there is too much baggage. Relationships aren't easy anymore. There's no such thing as this kind of Disney fairy tale, so I think anyone who has been in that position before will relate to the show," said Stuart Ward, "Guy."

Set in Dublin, Ireland, the cast also serves as the orchestra with each one playing an instrument.

Before the performance, they like to break the barrier between the audience and cast.

"We actually invite people on stage to get a drink on the bar while they listen to some music by the cast," Ward said.

"Get the audience in the mood so they feel like they are in Ireland and get them kind of involved in the story with us," said Dani de Waal, "Girl."

Using musical notes as a healing tool, the cast is hoping to spark inspiration.

"Most of the time people go away kind of thinking about their own relationships or past relationships or perhaps missed connections," Ward said.

"Look brightly at the future and maybe make some changes in their life that force them to follow their dreams," de Waal said.

"Once" will be performing here until Sunday, and it is recommended you arrive early so you can enjoy a pre-show performance.

This musical was adapted from the 2006 film "Once." It also features the Academy award-winning song "Falling Slowly."
