Marylanders Fall In Line For The New iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--The wait is over. You can now get your hands on an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

Tracey Leong has the story on the iPhone frenzy.

For many Apple customers, the launching of the company's biggest iPhone is like Christmas.

It's the day people can finally unwrap their shiny new toy.

There were cheering customers at the Apple flagship store in New York and around the world.

Some waited in line for days "To get the iPhone 6 Plus, duh," Sam Mullinix, customer.

Mullinix camped outside of AT&T's Lutherville store for 36 hours to be the first in line.

But the lines weren't as long as past iPhone launches because many preordered.

"Not a big crowd and everyone is just having fun with each other so it makes it easier for us as well as them," said Marta Rosado, Baltimore AT & T director of sales.

Nationwide, preorders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus set a new first day record for Apple--topping four million in just 24 hours.

The most significant change is the size. Comparing them to an iPhone 5, it's easy to see the difference.

The iPhone 6 has a screen measuring 4.7 inches and the iPhone 6 Plus has a screen measuring 5.5 inches.

They're also thinner and lighter.

Customer Mike Stowers spent five hours in line and says it was worth it.

"The screen, the clarity, it's faster. I love it. We love it," Stowers said.

If you are wondering what to do with your old iPhone, AT&T will actually buy it back for a credit of up to $300. And you can use that towards your new iPhone, basically getting it for free.

And above all else, getting the new iPhone before your friends and family earns you bragging rights.

"That is where all the excitement is in being, the first and be able to post that we have it first," Stowers said.

Verizon and Sprint also offer a similar iPhone trade-in option like AT&T for the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

If you order online now, you may have to wait until November to get it.

Worldwide sales totals won't be in for a few days, but many schools across our region are reportedly selling out of new phones very quickly.
