Premiere Of 'NCIS New Orleans' Brings New Flavor To The Big Easy

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—"NCIS" is one of the most popular crime dramas on television. And it's getting some new flavor with a spin-off series set in New Orleans.

Linh Bui has a preview.

"NCIS" is wildly popular. We've got the original set in Los Angeles and now the latest series is set in New Orleans.

Scott Bakula leads the "NCIS" office in New Orleans as special agent Dwayne Pride as they investigate criminal cases affecting military personnel in The Big Easy.

"It's not fancy or high tech like Washington, D.C. or LA. So it's a lot more personal. You've got to get your hands a little dirtier to kind of get involved with people on the street and solve your crimes," Bakula said.

Why New Orleans? What makes the city so good for the series?

"There's a great vibe in the city. They're very happy we're there. The stories are personal. We don't leave the city. It's all there and all interconnected," Bakula said.

The case gets personal in the series premiere.

The victim is a man Pride once mentored.

"NCIS New Orleans" is shot on location in the city-- a place known for its decadence, music and food.

The show highlights the jazzy side of New Orleans.

But also reveals its underbelly.

"Most of our bodies are found in the swamp and have been eaten by alligators," said Lucas Black, "NCIS New Orleans" actor.

New Orleans, a colorful city with a dark side.

Bakula's character is based on a real life Louisiana investigator.

"NCIS New Orleans" premieres Tuesday night at 9 p.m. on WJZ-TV.
