Montgomery County Gets 1st New Hospital In 35 years

GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County is getting its first new hospital in 35 years.

The Holy Cross Germantown Hospital is set to open next Wednesday on the Germantown campus of Montgomery County's Community College.

The $202 million hospital will have 93 beds and will employ about 580 people. It will have a full-service emergency room, a 15-bed intensive-care unit and a behavioral health unit for psychiatric care.

The hospital will be the only one in the region to move entirely to private patient rooms.

An 80,000-square-foot medical office building and a parking garage also are being built as part of the hospital and should open by July.

The hospital's nearest competitor, Adventist Healthcare, says it plans to open three urgent care centers next year in Germantown, Rockville and Laurel.
