Man Charged In Hit-And-Run In Frederick County

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a driver who careened into guard rails on Route 40, struck a car and then hit a vehicle being driven by a sheriff's deputy has been charged with numerous traffic offenses.

Authorities say Jeffrey Lynn Crampton of Middletown was traveling west on Route 40 in the area of Edgemont Road around 8 p.m. Friday when he slammed into two guard rails and then side-swiped a Ford Fusion. The sheriff's office says Crampton didn't stop and later drove head-on into a sheriff's deputy.

Crampton was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say he faces multiple charges as a result of the hit-and-run collision and other charges are forthcoming.

A telephone message left Saturday evening at a listing for Crampton was not immediately returned.
