Bank Teller Charged With Stealing $42K From Vault

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Rockville police have arrested a bank teller for allegedly stealing $42,000 from the bank's vault.

Thirty-two-year-old Ngawang Geleg of Gaithersburg was charged Monday with theft and theft scheme.

Officers say they were called to Columbia Bank on Research Court on Nov. 7, where a bank manager said an audit found that the vault was short by about $42,000. Police say an audit was also performed on Geleg's cash drawer and was found to be over by several hundred dollars.

Police say Geleg admitted to talking the money from the vault, and that bank officials believe the theft took place over two weeks.
