Md. GOP Leaders Attend Anne Arundel Inauguration

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Republican Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh has been sworn in to office.

His inauguration Monday in Annapolis was a big draw for prominent Maryland Republicans, who had a lot to cheer about in heavily Democratic Maryland this year. In addition to winning the governorship, Republicans gained seven seats in the House of Delegates and two seats in the Senate, though the Legislature will remain under Democratic control.

Gov.-elect Larry Hogan, former Gov. Robert Ehrlich and Ehrlich's wife, Kendel, spoke at Schuh's inauguration. Former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, who went on to serve as the national chairman of the Republican Party, also attended.

House Speaker Michael Busch, an Anne Arundel County Democrat, spoke as well. Schuh served two terms in the House.
