Army Navy: Two Teams One Goal

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --- It's one of the greatest storied rivalries in all of college football, but the game wasn't the only highlight of the day. Christie Ileto has the sights and sounds from M&T Bank Stadium.

The biggest college football rivalry in America, played out in Baltimore.

"Go Army, beat Navy," Army fans said said.

Thousands of West Point cadets and midshipmen from the Naval Academy filed into M&T Bank Stadium Saturday.

This was their 115th time facing off.

Tailgaters talked trash, but even the youngest fans and first timers made the trek to be a pat of a more than 100 year old tradition.

"I came all this way... my first time ever... such an honor to be at such a prestigious game... they gotta win," Army fan Cathy Getts said.

But, this time Navy's 12 year winning streak couldn't be stopped.

"I felt a little bit bad for the woman sitting next to us from Army," Rochelle Rubin said. "She said it was her first game and it would be nice if we could win and I told her she could have the next one."

When asked if she really meant that...

"No, no," she said.

Every year both teams spend 60 minutes competing to win, but the game is bigger than bragging rights.

"We defend our country as a community and we have an opportunity to share that competing against each other and it's a lot of fun," retired Navy Peter DiCarlo said.

Fun is an understatement.

There was a week's worth of patriotic events as sports fans on both sides celebrated because regardless of who wins, 364 days out of the year, Army and Navy play on the same team.
