Pilot In Ocean City Crash Lacked Training

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Federal investigators say the pilot in last year's fatal plane crash in Ocean City may not have been adequately trained in the aerobatic moves he was performing.

Off-duty police officers Thomas Geoghegan and Joshua Adickes were killed in the crash on June 30, 2013. Geoghegan was the pilot and owner of the airplane.

According to The Daily Times of Salisbury, the National Transportation Safety Board determined that the crash was caused by Geoghegan losing situational awareness during a spin and misjudging his altitude.

The NTSB also said his flight records showed "no evidence of formal aerobatic training," despite evidence that he had conducted such maneuvers before.

The report said the plane didn't have any mechanical problems before it crashed.
