FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — According to preliminary results of a study, the city of Frederick may not be paying its employees enough to be competitive in the region.

The Frederick News-Post reports the study has found that pay for city staff generally lags by 5.5 to 5.8 percent compared to other counties or towns in the Baltimore-Washington region. The study looked at 384 full-time positions and 41 part-time positions.

A consulting group is working to finalize the results of the study.

Mayor Randy McClement says the preliminary results give him an idea of how salaries should change in the future. He says any changes the city makes for next year will depend on the city’s budget.

It would cost the city about $1.7 million adjust the pay grades of 343 employees.
