Police Investigate Woman's Dead Body Found In Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ) -- A woman's body was found on the side of the road in Frederick early Wednesday morning and now police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Maryland State Police are looking into the death of 20-year-old Malicia Smith of Hagerstown, who was found on the side of Route 40, west of Ridge Road, by passing motorists just after 3:30 a.m.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman has not been positively identified.

The roads in the area were closed during the initial investigation. The body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

This is the second female body found on the side of a roadway in Frederick County in two days. Another woman was found lying in her front yard in Jefferson, Md. Tuesday morning. At this time, the cases have not been linked.
