Hogan Announces More Administration Posts

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) --- Governor-elect Larry Hogan announces another four members of his cabinet as he prepares for his inauguration next month. Derek Valcourt has details on  Hogan's newest appointments and more on what he says will be his top priority.

He says he's got to get the state's spending under control and he's assembling a team to help him do it.

With the state facing a projected $1.2 billion budget shortfall, governor-elect, Larry Hogan vowed to reel in state spending tho ugh he's not yet releasing details on exactly how he plans to do it.

"People are going to have to brace. We are not going to be able to pay for ever program everybody wants or every program we'd like to have. We are in very tight fiscal constraints right now and we are going to have to make some very tough decisions which is what the voters elected me to do. It's the reason I'm governor and Anthony Brown is not," Hogan said.

Hogan made the comments flanked by four more appointees to his administration.

Former Maryland House minority whip, Al Redmer led the Maryland Insurance Administration under Republican former governor, Bob Ehrlich. He'll now resume that job under Hogan.

Steven Moyer worked for 24 years with Maryland State Police. He'll now serve as Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Vietnam veteran and former Maryland House majority whip, George Owings, Democrat, will reclaim his job as Secretary of Veterans Affairs, a job he also once held in the Ehrlich administration.

John Wobensmith worked in the defense department under five U.S. presidents. He'll now serve as Maryland's Secretary of State.

Hogan's cabinet is less than half filled.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the success we've had, the diversity, the inclusiveness, the bipartisanship and the wealth of experience from the private sector and government,"  Hogan said. "I think it's something that we're very proud of."

Hogan said he'll announce more of his appointees sometime next week. Hogan is set to be sworn in as governor on Jan. 21.

Hogan's cabinet appointments must be confirmed by the Maryland Senate.
