BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ) --- A 29-year-old paramedic, Erik Steciak, has been fatally struck after responding to a crash in Bel Air on Tuesday afternoon.

At 1:50 p.m., the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a motor vehicle collision with injury in the 300 block of Patterson Mill Road.

It was reported that a vehicle ran off the roadway into an embankment. The injured person was in a nearby residence.

Once firefighter arrived, they determined the best access to the inured person was to use a four wheel drive assist due to weather and driveway conditions.

Steciak was treated at the scene. He was transported in grave condition to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where he later died.

Steciak was a paid EMS employee who worked for Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company since December 2011.

Harford County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation. According to officials, weather is believed to be a major factor in this incident.

Funeral services will be posted once final arrangements are completed.
