Rain Continues To Fall Across Md.

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --  Rain is set to continue across the region until later this evening.

Meteorologist Chelsea Ingram has more on what to expect.

A widespread rainfall is coming down now for the area and for some it is still freezing on contact for areas near the Mason-Dixon line.

We'll be dealing with rainfall for the next several hours. It won't taper off until the evening or even later tonight.

Up to 0.1" of ice accumulated across the affected region Monday morning -- Hagerstown saw .05" of ice, Baltimore saw 0.05" and .13" was reported in Westminster.

A freezing weather advisory overnight for much of the region created a messy commute for some Marylanders Monday morning.

Remember: freezing rain is when the atmosphere is warm enough for precipitation to fall as rain but it freezes on contact with any surface that is at or below freezing usually forming a layer or coating of ice.

Although many main roadways were pretreated, some back roads and sidewalks had an icy glaze.

The Maryland State Highway Administration asked motorists to stay off the roadways early Monday morning or stay home, if possible.

There could be some residual problems Tuesday morning if the water freezes over again. Cold weather is expected to come into the region behind the rainfall.
