Baltimore Activates 'Code Blue' Emergency Monday And Tuesday

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Department of Health and Human Resources has declared a Code Blue emergency.

Code Blue will be in effect Monday and Tuesday because of freezing temperatures and wind chills in the single digits.

A resource center for homeless men and women will operate 24 hours a day, while homeless outreach workers will conduct cold weather education workshops and encourage homeless individuals to shelter indoors.

Private homeless shelters are encouraged to extend their hours and keep people in doors, and the city's 13 senior centers will offer free emergency meals.

Baltimore officials say there have already been two cold weather-related deaths this winter.

This is the fourth Code Blue alert for Baltimore this season.
