NFL Films' Ed Sabol: Remembering A Legend

Greg Cosell of NFL Films joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to remember the founder of NFL Films Ed Sabol. Greg looked back fondly on his memories of Mr. Sabol. "Mr. Sabol was the one who hired me back in the spring of '79. I have been here since July of 1979 so I have been here through Mr. Sabol and when he started to move away from the company and Steve took over so i have been here for a long time. I am forever indebted to Mr. Sabol for hiring me. I was 22 years old at the time and then Steve really became my mentor. I have been very, very fortunate 35 years here going to a job that I love."

When talking about the legacy of NFL Films, Greg believes it was a revolutionary idea for its time. "I think Mr. Sabol had an idea that right now seems very simple when you look back, but in 1963 it was way ahead of its time. He wanted to merge Hollywood movie making and NFL football. That was really the Cliff Notes version of the idea."

And finally Scott asked Greg for his thoughts on Ravens free agent Wide Receiver Torrey Smith. "I think we kind of know what he is. He is kind of a vertical guy with some in-breaking routes as well. He's not a complete route tree kind of receiver and I think he is a compliment. And I think that probably most people would know that, so it all depends on what he and his agent think he can get. What the market bares and what someone is willing to pay him. If obviously someone is willing to break the bank then more power to him, that's why we have free agency and that would be awesome for him. That's the way it should be, if not then I guess he'll have a decision to make."
