MCHENRY, Md. (AP) — A kayak design innovator of the 1980s is the featured speaker at an adventure sports symposium in far western Maryland.
Jess Whittemore of Confluence, Pennsylvania, is discussing the history of advanced fabrics for rugged outdoor clothing Tuesday night at Garrett College in McHenry.
Whittemore is credited with helping to popularize small kayaks known as “squirt boats.” He is also known for designing composite materials for boat construction and developing paddling techniques.
