Police Still Searching For Gunman In School Shooting

FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ) -- Fears rise in Frederick County as a gunman is still walking free. It's been two weeks since two students were shot outside a basketball game at Frederick High School. Now police are zeroing in on the shooter.

Meghan McCorkell has the latest on the ongoing investigation.

Police say they are still searching for four suspects who may have been inside that basketball game before the shooting. They believe one of them may be the gunman.

As another school day lets out at Frederick High School, a gunman remains on the loose.

"I didn't think it would happen here," said Emily Moncada. "It's such a small and quiet town."

Two weeks ago, someone opened fire outside a JV basketball game. Two students from rival Governor Thomas Johnson High School were shot.

"It's a little concerning it happened at the school with so many kids around but I think the police are all on top of it," said parent Richard Cipperly.

Finding that shooter is now the number one mission of the police department.

"It's our highest priority right now. Every detective I have, every crime scene technician, everybody is working this case," said Lt. Clark Pennington.

Investigators now believe 5-10 rounds were fired into a group of people from the same semi-automatic, small caliber handgun. They say the victims were involved in a dispute prior to the shooting.

"We don't believe this is a random act. We do believe it was between a known party with the other," said Pennington.

Investigators are now combing through surveillance footage from both inside and outside the school. They're asking for any video or pictures anyone took inside that basketball game.

As days go on without an arrest, tensions within the community are rising.

"Our kids went to that high school and to think that they could have been in there at that time, it's really scary," said Jeannie Foss.

Now the community wants the gunman caught.

Detectives have interviewed more than 300 people in this case, many of them witnesses. They say they are following up on any leads.

The two students who were shot have been released from the hospital. They are cooperating with police.
